The City of Rijeka has launched an integrated project "Tourist valorization of representative monuments of Rijeka's industrial heritage" which deals with the restoration of two representative cultural monuments – the Galeb ship and the Sugar Palace. As part of the project, two interactive multimedia totems (City light devices) were set up for outdoor use which will provide information on industrial heritage and entertain visitors with various applications.
The City of Rijeka is committed to preserving its natural and cultural-historical potential and heritage, and has been declared the European Capital of Culture 2020. This title brings the City of Rijeka the potential for further cultural development, as well as improving the areas of citizens lives and enable new energy of growth. Rich in history, Rijeka is a well known port city with numerous remnants of an industrial past, which artists, together with citizens, as well as all tourists, turn into city hubs of culture.
The City of Rijeka has decided to initiate a project through which the representative monuments of Rijeka's industrial heritage will be presented through multimedia. Therefore, the city decided to set up multimedia totems with a multitude of interactive applications and content.
To deliver a quality visually impressive, and at the same time cost-effective solution of multimedia totems that will be accepted by the city and its visitors.
The solution had to be equipped with packages of centrally managed multimedia applications, and in the creative part of the project it was necessary to study two representative monuments of Rijeka's industrial heritage, develop visual content and design a user interface.
With the application of our products: PandoPad® Manager, PandoPad® Applications and PandoPad® 75 ”TOTEM units, all interactive services necessary for informing and presenting content have been realized. Multimedia totems consist of a two-sided interactive touch screens that allow users to move the interactive interface to the desired height. The interactive screens use the most modern technology, they have high brightness, they are anti-glare (visible in the sun) and they have high resolution.
Modern multimedia totems (City light devices) with special dimensions of 75” and a customized interactive interface dominate the space and became the focal point of information. One City light device was placed near the Sugar Palace within the Benčić complex.
The second City light device was placed next to the Galeb Ship on the Rijeka breakwater (Molo longo).
On the interactive totems, visitors have the opportunity to explore Rijeka's industrial heritage, view various brochures, photographs, etc.
In this example, we see the PandoPad® Outdoor Way Finder application that offers a location map. Using PandoPad® Manager, you enter points of interest (POIs) on Google Maps, which will then display more detailed information about the selected point, or the path from where the PandoPad totem is located to the selected point.
PandoPad® Puzzle and PandoPad® Memory entertainment applications with various motifs of Rijeka's industrial heritage have been specially designed for the youngest visitors.
Through the interactive totem, it is also possible to evaluate the entire experience through the PandoPad® FeedBack application.
