As part of the "Podmorsko je dobro" project, the Croatian Maritime Museum Split, led by the Split-Dalmatia County, has started implementing activities called "New Technologies in Tourism" and decided to install a multimedia interactive kiosk. With a help from such technology, users are provided with an extraordinary experience of encountering selected underwater sites and artifacts of maritime heritage such as shipwrecks from antiquity, early modern times, the famous Battle of Vis and both world wars.
With this project, museums, as one of the most important tourist bases, become more intriguing to all guests, both in the audiovisual sense and in the stories told by the museum curators. With a help of multimedia kiosk, the Croatian Maritime Museum in Split gets richer with a new experience of already existing attractions. The aim of the project is also to enrich the tourist offer of Croatian coast and put emphasis on the activity of diving, given that the sites in the Split-Dalmatia County are one of the richest in the Mediterranean.
As part of the Split-Dalmatia County project "Podmorsko je dobro", the Croatian Maritime Museum Split began with activities which would bring the secrets of Split-Dalmatia County closer to the underwater heritage through new technologies. Therefore, the museum decided to install a multimedia kiosk with many interactive applications and content
Deliver a quality visually impressive, and at the same time cost-effective solution for a multimedia kiosk that will be well noticed and accepted by museum visitors.
The solution needed to be equipped with a package of centrally managed multimedia applications and in the creative part of the project it was necessary to study the archaeological and underwater heritage in the Split-Dalmatia County, develop visual content and design user interfaces.
With the application of products: PandoPad® Manager, PandoPad® Applications and PandoPad® FLOOR unit, all interactive services necessary for information, entertainment and advertising have been realized. The stand-alone multimedia kiosk is 55 inches (approx. 140 cm), it is a touchscreen, the content is bilingual and contains many fun applications. The screen is of the most modern technology, high brightness, and due to its characteristics, it dominates the museum space.
The interactive kiosk provides the experience of exploring the selected underwater sites and objects of underwater heritage of the Split-Dalmatia County. A total of 22 localities from the county's aquatoric area were presented.
Setting up an interactive kiosk is a further step towards new technologies so that all generations can dive under the sea and to depths of up to 120 meters. Shipwrecks are also presented here, ie ships destroyed in the Battle of Vis, which are located at these depths as well as those ones found in the shallows.
The interactive kiosk is located in the part of the exhibition that traces the history of merchant shipping since ancient times.
The interactive kiosk contains a set of PandoPad applications that provide an overview of various albums, brochures, videos, etc. There are a number of detailed photos taken by diving centers and underwater archaeologists.
The youngest visitors have the opportunity to play interactive games such as quizzes, puzzles and memory games.
In this example, we see the PandoPad® eCard and eCard selfie applications, through which users can select one of the offered images of underwater sites or insert a photo of their face and send a virtual / digital postcard using the integrated e-mail system.
In this example, we see the Geolocator app, which instead of offering answers to questions in text form, requires players to answer by tapping the exact position on the geo map. The characteristics of such applications provide the possibility of a different number of questions, the possibility of entering multiple possible answers, the timer required for answers, the display of results, etc.
